Picture of Dick Edmond

Dick was born in Mansfield, Ohio in 1939 and died September 23, 1998 in Tiffin. Dick graduated from Mansfield Senior High School in 1957 and was a member of the United States Air Force.

He loved baseball as a kid - especially Mickey Mantle. He played for CYO basketball teams as a kid and summer baseball programs - but really just loved the high school sports scene - and started writing about it. When he got his first job as a "stringer" sports writer he found what he loved to do - and ran with it the rest of his life.

He always told his children, that out of all the professional, college, and sports venues he covered - high school sports were the purest form of teamwork and "love of the game." He enjoyed the high school atmosphere the most.

Dick was the Sports Editor for the Bucyrus Telegraph-Forum and The Advertiser Tribune (21 years), the Sports Information Director at Heidelberg University (9 years), and the Lifestyle Editor for The Advertiser Tribune (at the time of his death in 1998). Dick won multiple writing awards as both an editor and as Sports Information Director.
